UPDATING VIDEO CARD DRIVERS QUICK THE RIGHT WAY FAST TUTORIALġ)UNINSTALL existing drivers from Add/Remove Programs (WinXP) under control panel or Programs and Features (WinVista/7) using the program listing.
I can also suggest getting "Driver Sweeper" from and follow the following process to make sure the new drivers are installed without potential issues from old driver remains.
including (especially if you are running Vista/7) making sure you get the 32 bit versions if you have a 32 bit OS and 64 bit versions if you have a 64 bit OS. Make sure you get the one appropriate for your operating system. You can check Control Panel > System for that information. You may also want to find out if you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System. DO SO FIRST!įind out what video card you are running (Goto the Device Manager and it should be under Display Adapters) if you don't know already then goto one of the following websites depending on your video chipset. >This computer should be able to run this game at maximum (and frankly most other games) with the possible exception of Ambient Occlusion (which hits the computer too hard) in FFXIV.įirst off I recommend that if you have not updated your video drivers. *A Computer running a high end Quad Core or higher processor with 8GB or more of RAM and a HIGH END video chipset (Geforce 8800, 9800, GT280, GT460-480 or better of that generation and Radeon HD 3800, HD 4800, and HD 5800 or better of that generation.) >This computer should be able to run this game at LOW to MEDIUM details (depending on Dual Core vs Quad Core and the video card you have). *A Computer running a Dual Core or low end Quad Core processor with 4-6GB of RAM and a MID END video chipset (Geforce 6800, 7800, 8600, 9600, GT260 and Radeon HD 3600, HD 4600, HD 5600) >This computer may or may not be able to play FFXIV (Or most other modern games for that matter) and even it does the performance even at lowest will not be playable (under 15fps)

These are some quick notes and not a full walkthrough with pictures and is subject to change. I applied them to some of my machines and saw some improvement and thought I would share them here. I am looking for some feedback as to some of these suggestions that I came up with to deal with some of the performance issues in the game. Those threads in general can also be places to read to find other potential fixes.Alright. (AMD's software allows you to define game-specific downclocks, I imagine nvidia would have something similar.)Įdit: Added some links to places where you can read about other people experiencing issues and solving it by limiting FPS and/or underclocking their hardware. I had similar crashing issues and since limiting the FPS in-game to 60 (via Radeon Chill as I have an AMD GPU) as well as downclocking the GPU when playing ffxiv by 10%, I have not had any crashes. FFXIV is known to not like overclocked hardware and can crash from that².
If your GPU is overclocked (either by yourself or factory OC), you could try underclocking it. The game is known for being unstable at 90+ FPS¹. Other things to try are to limit the game to 60 FPS (via your nvidia settings, not in-game).
